Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary
Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary is a private wildlife sanctuary set within a pocket of mangrove forest and coastal land near Kampung Samawang, surrounded by oil palm estate land. It was preserved in the 1990s after the landowner discovered wild proboscis monkeys living on the site and chose to protect the habitat instead of clearing it for plantation development. Today it offers close-up encounters with these unique primates and other wildlife.

Wildlife viewing: Proboscis monkeys often come very close to the raised wooden observation platforms during feeding times — a great opportunity for photography.
Although the monkeys are still wild, they are habituated to humans because of the scheduled feedings.

Species: Proboscis monkeys (Nasalis larvatus), known for their large, pendulous noses and pot-bellied appearance.
These monkeys are endemic to Borneo and considered vulnerable due to habitat loss.
The sanctuary supports free‑roaming groups that visit feeding platforms where they can be observed closely.
Other wildlife sometimes spotted includes silver‑leaf monkeys, hornbills, otters, and various birds.
